This World Is a Tree
And We Are Its Fruits.
Unripe Fruits Cling To The Branches
As They Mature and Become Sweet
They Hold On Less Tightly.
~RUMI~

Unripe fruit clings to the branches…what are you clinging to. What is holding you, keeping you stuck in your ways of being that no longer work for you? Holding on is an act of Fear. Letting go an act of Faith. During the summer of our years, if we choose growth, we begin to lighten our grip on the world around us.

If there were ever a season that invited us to let go it is summer. It's as if nature is inviting us to come and relish in her splendor. Whether we are at the beach, a lake, a park, or a picnic, summer is when many of us feel most vibrant, most alive and most free. Summer's are full of memories, most of them happy. Remember those "What I did on my summer vacation" speeches. They were full of warm and fun experiences…seeing new sights, getting a golden brown tan, meeting a new summer romance or reading a summer romance novel. It is a time where after the planting we get to relax a bit, let go and watch the fruits of our labor grow.

Letting go is often the most difficult thing we attempt to do as humans. You see the things we hold onto are the things, which will feel define who we are in our lives. We are somebody's mothers, we are somebody's wife, we are a doctor, a lawyer a PTA president. WE ARE NONE OF THESE. We are a spiritual being playing these roles, hopefully well, but they are not who we are.

I find in life that we spend our first forty years defining ourselves through our roles. Jockeying for the importance of our roles, defending those roles and literally believing they are who we are. Then between forty and fifty things begin to happen. Our children grow up and begin to leave home, no longer needing us in the same way as when they were young. In our job younger people are moving in and taking over. They suddenly begin to look at you as a 'has been' and you often times begin to feel that way. Half of the marriages dissolve and end up in divorce. Suddenly you find yourself in what others have termed mid-life crises.

Your mid-life crisis is actually a wake up call. It is an invitation to wake up to the truly important things in life. I suggest you not fight this process by having affairs, buying fast cars, or co-depending your children. The universe has a way of being very clear in the importance of this process. Like Bruce Springsteen says in his song, Human Touch from the movie Philadelphia:

In the end what you don't surrender, Well the world just strips away.

So surrender to life…Just Let Go! It is scary but if we do our work to explore our true identity, if we soften and ripen the deepest parts of who we are then there will be a gentle falling, like the fruit falling off the tree soft, ripe, sweet and ready for the tasting. So too will you mature into your own sweetness, your own softness and now when you share yourself with another they will get to experience the true nourishment of a healthy relationship with you. Of course you will still be a mother, a wife, a doctor, lawyer or clerk. But most importantly you will be a better expression of all of these because you will be a more complete and peace-filled you.

This is summer the time of year to ripen and become the full expression of our authentic selves.

To explore your authentic self experientially join us at our Four Season Friendship Gatherings or begin your internal work on line in our member's section.
